Setback
If you follow me on twitter, you probably know this already.
My house was robbed on Sunday morning, while I was at my boyfriend’s. Mom was at home, alone. She’s fine, btw, she behaved nicely and she wasn’t harmed, nor were any of my pets.
Seeing the house turned upside down like if it was a war zone was disheartening. The robbers took our computers and barely two other small things or something, since we don’t have valuable things all; no matter how hard they looked, they didn’t find anything and just left a horrible mess that made me cry when I saw it.
They took my mom’s desktop computer, her netbook that was used only twice, my netbook (the battery charger was on the other room and they didn’t take it /)_(\ ), my desktop with my two monitors and my intuos 4… without the plug, nor the pen >_(\ They didn’t take my printer and they just didn’t have enough room on their suitcases and bags for the scanner, so they left it on the livingroom when they left.
Other things they took from me were my old digital camera, my cheap subwooferand speakers, and my hair straightening iron (but not the curling iron o_O). They also broke the jar where I kept my late dog’s ashes, and they got spilled on the carpet floor =___= they probably thought it was a piggy bank or something and broke it just in case… *facepalms* (the ashes I could pick with the dustpan are now mostly buried in the backyard and the rest is on the vacuum cleaner Dx ).
They took the chocolates from the fridge too!!! D:<
Well… Things are just things, and they can be replaced if they need to. I’m grateful nobody got hurt!
I’m upset it happened at all, of course. VERY upset. I keep thinking that if I was here maybe I could have prevented it all by ringing the alarm from inside the house… or maybe it could have been worse as I could have panicked or they would have harmed me or who-knows-what >>;
I’m very upset because they took the things I worked hard to buy, the things I used to work and do my job with, and I’m very very sad because of all the drawings, the projects, the scripts, the personal photographs from 2007 until now that were there on my desktop computer that got lost.
I feel stupid for never feeling the necessity of making backups of that D: (I have a pre-2007 very scratched CD ) Some of the stuff was saved because I shared them with othe people or because I just uploaded them here or there, but the rest is gone :/
I also feel stupid because one of the reasons I got the netbook was to use it when I went to see my boyfriend. And this time I went to visit him and didn’t take it with me! *headdesk* I was complaining the whole weekend for not having it with me, even thought about asking a friend to drive me home to fetch it, but no… and then it gets stolen >_<
And yes, cops came, they drew a portrait of the robbers, took fingerprints (and left a mess of hot-pink powder everywhere =_=) and all that and then they left during the afternoon. Chances are that’s all what will happen with the incident, since crime rate is pretty high here and cops and justice here are not exactly super efficient ^^; Also chances are that all the things they took from us were sold within the next couple of hours on the streets for way low than they are worth 9_9;
Oh, well… Tough luck, life is hard and shit happens.
But life goes on, right? We can’t let bad things hinder us and make us miserable!
We quickly picked up and started cleaning the house. From her office, mom ordered a new desktop computer (better than the one she had before =P ) and a new monitor for me.
I was stubborn on getting the same netbook model I had, so we went to an outlet of a store we knew that had it on stock, and there was a 2nd hand unit at 35% discount. I asked what was wrong with it and they said that it was refurbished or something. We checked the Tech Service note that came with it and it was that while it was on display on the store, somebody blocked the user and they sent it to tech support to unblock it. And that was all o_o. No damage, no malfunctioning, nothing!
So now I have my netbook back (I’m pretending it never left <3} and I have to wait for mom’s computer and my monitor to arrive in the next couple of days and then go fetch my boyfriend’s Bamboo tablet (he doens’t even use it so he let me have it C: ) to be able to resume work.
With time, maybe I’ll buy a new desktop computer (though just plugging my nb to a monitor works just fine when I need to draw) and a new Intuos4 because I really liked it and I was so happy when I bought it, I just want to have it again. Oh and I need a new hair straightening iron xD;
So yeah, this may have been a bad start of the year, but for me it was just a slight setback and now I just have an extra reason to work very hard this year! C:
PS:
Ishtera,Vinca, Caramel Mokaccino and the Kagamine fanbook stuff is gone. Except of the sketches and previews I uploaded at some point to show around, everything is gone =(
Astre@ I think I have it in my dropbox… must check later.
Kansei preliminary work is lost and I’ll have to start again (MC’s sprite I did save it somewhere, thank goodness!), and the pretty girl I did the other day to release as a free sprite is lost forever ;_; Almost no Winter in Fairbrook work was lost. Last Nexus sprite I was working on and had almost completely done got lost.
Also lost is the Homeward girls CG I was almost done with but never ever uploaded a preview of anywhere >>;
Oh, dear, I can think of so many unfinished drawings I had lying around that are lost foeever I just want to go hide in a corner >___<

Oh god. I’m so sorry. D: I’m glad your mother and pets are safe though. At least they only ran off with the stuff….even though I imagine losing all of that is really really hard. *HUG* If there is anyway I can help, please tell me!

Aggggh, this is so frustrating. Thieves make me angry. And they took your chocolate? That’s random and aggravating at the same time. BAH. I’m really glad that everyone is okay, though.

When the cops left and all, I went to the fridge to grab a chocolate to feel better and they were gone! First I thought mom ate them in New Years while I was out, but then she said the robbers took them because they were hungry… So mean!!

Lo del Caramel, creo que la mayor parte de las cosas está en la web, aunque los PSDs se perdieron y lo que llevaba escrito extra del script D: (estaba terminando el día uno ;_;)
Felipe está trabajando por allá cerca de tu pega, dice te ha visto de pasada un par de veces cuando ha ido a almorzar al mall con sus compañeros de trabajo y yo le vivo diciendo que te vaya a decir hola xD

Woaahh, I’m really sorry to hear that. I would be on the verge of jumping off a bridge if all the work I’ve done for the past four years was stolen. T_T Those scum…! I hope they get what’s coming to them.
On the bright side, nobody can steal the skills you’ve learned the the past four years. Even if your paintings are gone, your abilities are still here. So keep drawing! b^_^

I’ve learned, however, that you may mourn your losses just enough time to let it out of your chest, and not let them hinder you; and that you can alway start over and do things better this time!

I’m going to miss some of those drawings I never managed to finish and/or never published, though ;_;

Me alegro mucho de que lo estén tomando con optimismo porque tienen razón… Son solo cosas. Las cosas de uno, claro. Trabajadas. Pero cosas.

Mi mamá estaba sorprendida de haber estado tan tranquila, la verdad. Fuera del shock inicial de cuando la agarraron afuera de la casa y pataleo para tratar de zafarse, al final estaba conversando toda normal con los ladrones… Cuando me llamó, de hecho, ni si quiera me imagine que ella había pasado por eso y pensaba que habían entrado cuando ella no estaba.
La casa estaba hecha una zona de desastre. Como esas escenas donde los cajones y la ropa están tirados por todos lados y los muebles corridos después de, no se, un huracán… Así estaba toda la casa.
Todavía nos cuesta ordenar las cosas… Da rabia, da impotencia… Pero hay que volver a la normalidad y seguir adelante!
No he visto qué fue lo que se salvó de Astre@, creo que lo que se perdió fueron los originales de los últimos CGs y fondos que hice, pero los definitivos deberían estar en algún CD en algún sitio, de cuando presenté el proyecto, así que no es TAN terrible. Doy gracias que se me ocurrió meter esos archivos en otros sitios, si no me estaría dando cabezazos contra la pared.

Que mal lo del robo. Sé que es horrible no haber respaldado los dibujos y que se haya perdido casi todo pero piensa que es una manera un poco forzada para ser mas cuidadosa. Aprovecha para plasmar todo lo que has mejorado en el año que se fue en los proyectos que tengas que volver a empezar. Estoy segura te irá bien. No te desanimes.

Sí, tengo más que claro que de ahora en adelante respaldaré todo lo que haga online; antes no se me había ocurrido hacerlo pq francamente nunca se me pasó por la cabeza que le podría pasar una desgracia de ningún tipo a mi PC (nadie piensa que las cosas malas pueden pasar, pero pasan D:).
Me da pena lo de la tableta también; los muy idiotas van a venderla por 1/6 de su precio con suerte y ni les va a servir porque no se la llevaron completa… y con lo que me costó comprármela ;_;

Told you already by email how it sucks, and that I know what it means since happened to me too (though luckily was so much time ago that I didn’t had any PC yet).
I recommend you use one of the many free online backups. For example Ayu and I use Dropbox:

you get 2Gb which is already a good backup size and if you invite other people they give you free extra space. I’d recommend you always keep important files there, so if happens again (I hope not of course!) you won’t lost any file you put there

I used Dropbox sometime in the past (most of Astre@ is in there, thank goodness), but it was too little space for my stuff >>;
SVN is included on my Dreamhost account, so I may make use of that from now on, once I figure out how to do it.

I think keeping yourself occupied and in good spirits helps you deal with the whole thing better, so me and my mom are doing just that. We get realy blue when we’re not doing anything though D:

There’s no justice in this world. The physical property by itself isn’t worth much… but all the drawings are priceless.
Ever since I have art worth paying for I’ve made triple backups and always emailed to my cloud storage service provider.
I wish karma gets those robbers good… in the form of something they worked really hard for, all of a sudden getting destroyed or taken away. (But I won’t be surprised if they were druggies just looking for the next cash inflow to get their fix).

I always thought it was a hassle to upload all my files to my web host or something (I have unlimited storage there), manily because there were so many files and some of them realy heavy too, so uploading them all at once was just ugh. At least now I’ll only deal with a few files at a time instead and it won’t be as annoying ^^; And I’ll use SVN =o=
I don’t think they were regular junkies, by the way they acted. Low class people like them have so much of a hard time already I wouldn’t wish them worse than that. I just wished they would find a job instead of excusing themselves with the bad conditions they grew up in and stopped disrupting people’s lifes like this ._.

I’m glad nothing happened to you and your family though. I hope they get what they deserve.
Is there any way to help you even if there’s such a great distance ?
I remember my best friend being robbed twice while he was going to work, first time was awful and the second time was worse.
It’s just like someone violated your intimacy, took away memories and burned them to the ground.
And I see that authorities are the same over there, just putting on a show and thinking “whatevah!”…
Well, maybe I’m just spiteful because I’m really angry at these kind of people.

It was shocking to read that on your twitter, sorry you had to go through this, especially with all the work you lost D: But at least no one got hurt, and I’m amazed at how well you handled the whole situation, I probably would have freaked out completely x,D Don’t let those criminals bring you down! Even if the police doesn’t catch them, sooner or later they will get back what they did.
Also lol, the random chocolate…one of my friends’ house was robbed too, and they took a pack of orange juice. It seems to be not uncommon? xD

Thats horrible!!! and all the little details made it worse!! like the dogs ashes. I think that if someone desecrated our dog bruno’s ashes, mum would go insane!
But likewise to yourself and other people, I think that its good that no one got hurt, and even though loosing all your work is a complete bummer, new starts are more pleasant than expected sometimes.

I’m so sorry to hear that! I can’t believe they took so much. Greedy little SOB weren’t they? Geez, getting robbed so bad was horrible, but I’m glad no one was hurt. You can always buy everything back, even though it’s irritating to by it twice.
